About

I am a native Texan, born in Lubbock, raised in Houston.  I left home to join the Coast Guard at 17 and was stationed in Connecticut. California and Portsmouth, Virginia, where I met my wife, Janet.  After I got out of the Coast Guard I ended up in Pennsylvania, and finally came to my senses and moved back to the south and have built a home on Yeopim Creek in Perquimans County.

I was a child of divorce in the 1960’s, and saw more broken relationships and lives than whole ones.   I lived in a world that was largely dysfunctional, but there were bright spots in my relational experiences – my brother and sister, my high school band director, scout master, classmates at the Coast Guard Academy and ultimately the wonderful woman that I married, and of course our three sons, Mark (and his wife Lily), Marty and Peter.  I have grown to understand that the most important things in life are centered around building strong relationships with others in my community, all of whom are made in the image of God.

Life has a way of revealing ones narrow focus and sometimes ignorant approach, but the process of waking up to this truth took me several decades.  I am excited to be a part of the Perquimans community and hope to be able to contribute in some small way to helping make this community a better place for all.

Janet and I have been here three years, and have grown to love the community, the land, and most importantly the people of Perquimans!
